Red Willow She Bends is based on a short poem by Leah Dorian. The main melody from the song uses the dorian mode, a minor sounding collection of notes (the sound you get when you play the white notes from from D to D on a piano.) The violin and the cello represent the voice of Red Willow as she sings, dances, and opens her heart to the winds.
Text adapted from a Poem by Leah Dorian:
Red Willow sang, she sang to the East Wind
Bending Moving Flexible
Red Willow danced, she danced for the West Wind
Rhythmic Swaying Falling
Red Willow’s heart she opened to the North Wind
Welcome Guidance Wisdom
Red Willow sang, she sang to the South Wind
Sharing Caring Loving
Ever Red, Ever Bright, Ever Growing.
