For the final project of my Universite de Montreal Master’s thesis, I composed a fully-orchestrated, one-hour opera on Henry James’s short story “The Beast in the Jungle.” The role of May Bartram was created by contralto Lisa Hornung, while John Marcher was created by baritone Chris Kelly. The orchestra was composed of Montreal musicians, with myself conducting. The premiere was live in Montreal at the Crowley Arts Center on Dec. 20th, 2011.
